Invasion Games

Hi Students!

We are coming to an end on our invasion games unit.
I have started a Popplet to sum up our unit. I would like you all to collaborate and add a couple of ideas to the mind map.

I would like you to include examples of sports in orange and characteristics of invasion games in blue.

This will then become a resource always available to you to use. We will make one of these at the end of each unit. All of these will contribute to your culminating project.

 Dear Parents,

Take a look at what your children have been learning in their Physical Education class! They are well on their way to becoming competent movers and understanding movement. The understand the skills involved in a sport category, such as invasion games, rather than merely focusing on sport specific skills. They are all excellent athletes!

Fitness Assessment

Hi Students!

As a part of your goal tracking we will be having a physical fitness assessment in two weeks, on October 15th, 2012.

This will consist of:

  • 12 minute run - see how many laps you can run around the gym in 12 minutes
  • Flexibility test - sit and reach test using a meter stick
  • Vertical Jump test - how high can you jump?
A reflection will be completed and added to your blog. These this will happen three times this year.

Dear Parents,

Physical fitness testing is done in order to quantitatively measure your students progress. Please ensure the night before the students eat a proper meal, pasta is best, and they get lots of sleep.

Active Living Journey

Hello Students!

We will begin working on our blogs on Monday.

Things you need to have:

  • Reflection on your starting point
  • 3 goals
    • 2 relating to physical activity
    • 1 relating to healthy eating
  • An understanding of the definition of physical literacy
This blog will track your progress throughout your year in physical education. You can use your blog to reflect on classes, intramurals, or sports teams you're involved in, trends in the media, your eating habits, or anything else you would like to share.

We will be working on this throughout the year.

I want you to enjoy this project and be as creative as you want. Include pictures, videos, music, etc.

If you need ideas, check out my blog; Shelbs' Stuff.

Please comment below with your blog web address.

Dear Parents,

By having your  children partake in creating a blog they are encouraged to reflect on their learning and performance in class. Reflection aids in the retention and understanding of concepts - only further instilling the habit of life long physical activity. You will have access to their blog and see how well your son or daughter is doing on their journey to active living.

Physical Literacy

Hey Students and Parents!

Mind map created on bubble.us

Physical Literacy is the guiding force of the physical education curriculum. By the end of this year, you all will be physical literate! This means you will be confident and competent movers, you will understand movement and be comfortable in all sorts of movement situations.

Physical Literacy emphasizes the benefit of transferable skills rather than sport specific skills. Our first unit is invasion games. These are games with an offence and a defence. As you can see on the course calendar we will be playing soccer and basketball.

The focus of these sports will be on ball manipulation and movement off the ball skills. We will move into hockey and football, focusing on the same two skills. The unit will conclude with an Olympic competition (day tournament of all four sports!)

Please comment below how much experience you have in playing games that have an offence and defence.
